Correct comma usage:

  1. The Constitution establishes the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government.
    A simple list of words.
  2. Anna married at the age of seventeen, had three children by twenty-two, and divorced by thirty.
Slightly more complex list of phrases.
  3. This sentence depends on the meaning and is actually quite fun.
If the parents are called Tom and Tessa, then the punctuation is correct.
If not and you mean your parents AND Tom and Tessa, add commas.
I’d like to thank my parents, Tom,and Tessa.
  4. Alice James, William and Henry’s sister, experienced a life in her father’s siblings’ shadows, consulted numerous doctors about her nerves, had a series of breakdowns, and never fully realized a life of her own.
This sentence is plain horrible, but it demonstrates the point.
