Pewter Plates and Lead Poisening

I’ve got a few more food and drink stories.

Those with money had plates made of pewter.

Guess what? Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach into the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.

I always wondered why some people thought tomotoes dangerous.

I guess this must be the reason.
