Time to see if you have really grasped the coordinate comma guideline.

Apply your newfound guidelines:

  1. There were no tickets left for the game so we had to watch it at home.
  2. We laid out our music and snacks, and began to study.
  3. “Nice” is a word with many meanings, and some are contradictory.
  4. John had to put the car in neutral so that he could push it out of the way.

Correct comma usage:

  1. There were no tickets left for the game, so we had to watch it at home.
  2. We laid out our music and snacks and began to study.
  3. Nice is a word with many meanings, and some are contradictory.
  4. No need for a comma because “so that” acts as a subordinate conjunction.
